China Buffet King - the Mandarin Experience

The attention to customer service and food quality soon made the Mandarin so popular that there were long line-ups. The size of the restaurant was increased three times in order to serve more customers. However, there were still long line-ups. As a result, the buffet was introduced to serve customers faster and to allow sampling of all the items on the Mandarin's menu. This change increased the popularity of the restaurant so that even more people drove for miles to wait to enjoy the Mandarin Experience.

China Buffet King - History

Our History
James Chiu, George and Diana Chiu, and K.C. Chang moved to Ontario in 1979, after working for many years in restaurants in New York and Montreal. They purchased a small Chinese restaurant with traditional décor and menu at 239 Queen Street East in Brampton called the Mandarin.

All these happy customers encouraged the founding partners to consider opening another location. In 1988, several loyal, hard working individuals who believed in teamwork from the original Mandarin were invited to become the first partners in a new restaurant. Since the first expansion, more locations have opened with new partners, creating over 1,500 new jobs. The success of each new location is based on the original principles of customer service and food quality that made the first Mandarin successful.

Mandarin continues to play an important role within the community. Groups which have benefited from Mandarin donations include various hospitals and charitable organizations.

The Mandarin has been honoured numerous times since first opening. We have received the Toronto Sun Reader's Choice Award for the best Chinese restaurant and buffet many times. The Mandarin has been placed among the top 100 food companies in Canada by Foodservice and Hospitality Magazine.

The Mandarin looks forward to continuing its expansion to new locations with new partners based on the solid foundation of its past.
