IHOP restaurants, one of America's favorite restaurant chains, are franchised and operated by Glendale, Calif.-based International House of Pancakes, Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary of IHOP Corp. IHOP restaurants feature moderately priced, high-quality food and beverage items, and table service in an attractive and comfortable atmosphere. Although IHOP restaurants are best known for their award-winning pancakes, omelettes and other breakfast specialties, IHOP restaurants are open throughout the day and evening hours and offer a broad array of lunch, dinner and snack items as well.
More than 99 percent of IHOP restaurants are operated by franchisees, who are independent business people. Our management belief is that an equity involved franchisee is very responsive to the needs of the guest. As of September 30, 2007, there were 1,328 IHOP restaurants located in 49 states, the U.S. Virgin Islands, Canada and Mexico.
The International House of Pancakes was founded in 1958 by Al Lapin, Jr., Albert Kallis, and financial partner Sherwood Rosenberg. The first restaurant opened on July 7, 1958, in Toluca Lake, California. Since then, locations have been opened all over the United States, in the Canadian province of British Columbia and in the Mexican city of Monterrey. It also announced on October 23, 2006 that it is expanding into the province of Ontario as well. IHOP is headquartered in Glendale, California. IHOP has officially phased out use of the name, International House of Pancakes.

» What animal welfare standards does IHOP have in place?
IHOP believes that animal welfare is important and as such we require all suppliers to have animal welfare programs in place that comply with the standards for animal welfare set forth by industry leaders such as:
o American Meat Institute
o United Egg Producers
o National Chicken Council
o National Pork Board
We work with others in our industry and our suppliers in an effort to continuously raise the bar on animal welfare standards. One reason that we are a member of the National Council of Chain Restaurants (NCCR), and our Vice President of Quality Assurance serves on their Animal Welfare Steering Committee, is to foster the industry and suppliers in our combined commitment to animal welfare.
Each table has its own sugar boat and the four of the following flavors of syrup dispensers: blueberry, boysenberry, butter pecan, and strawberry. There is also service of warm maple-flavored syrup, brought out with every meal with Pancakes/Waffles. Recently, a major change was introduced in its core menu in an attempt to become more than just a breakfast restaurant. The new menu offers a diverse number of lunch and dinner entrees. Recently, Country Griddle Cakes disappeared from the menu, replaced by "Corn Cake Pancakes", which contain cornmeal in the batter.
An IHOP in Poughkeepsie, New YorkThe "international" appellation of the chain derives from its three core crepe-style pancakes: "German" (served with powdered sugar and without sauce), "French" (served with orange marmalade), and "Swedish" (served with lingonberries and lingonberry butter). These fruit-topped crepes are offered with an egg-and-meat plate as the "International Passport Breakfast". Menu offerings such as French toast and Belgian waffles further reinforce the international theme
